History
In the summer of 2007 there was unhappiness that much of the planning and control of our town and county had been removed from local government, and instead policy was being forced upon us from city dwelling officials in Westminster who had only a limited idea of our unique, distinct, local issues.
The solution was to develop a Town Plan for Ross-on-Wye a "bottom-up" resource that would be an effective tool to argue against the "top-down" control being levied from London and giving a voice to the people of Ross-on-Wye.
A steering group was established and the process started with a public meeting at the Corn Exchange, over the following months, earlier information such as the 2003 ComDev survey report was re-evaluated; back copies of the Ross Gazette were read and relevant topics noted; and, a total of 88 voluntary organisations were contacted and asked for their thoughts. A clear set of topics emerged and these were written up in anĀ Options Report.

There then followed much consultation to "flesh out" the ideas in the option report
Topics raised by more than a very few people were distilled into a Questionnaire. Some 4,750 copies were distributed in May 2009, and an on-line version put on the RoWToP website. Remarkably, there were 1,725 valid responses; a 36% rate!

All of the foregoing was taken into account in drafting theĀ Plan itself.
