5. Internet Access

 
To encourage the development of sufficient internet access to satisfy demand in Ross-on-Wye. This is an important factor in the development of Herefordshire’s economy as 40% of employment is knowledge based.
 

In the questionnaire 42% of respondents indicated that they would like a free access location to computers. The Ross Library refurbishment may satisfy some of this demand.

Issue

Action

An improved internet cafe or community facility is required. Ross Town Council to talk to local businesses and other agencies about extending provision and to find out what the library will be providing.

Ross-on-WiFi no longer being used by the public, the growth on 3g internet enabled smart phones has made this requirement unnecessary. Ross-on-WiFi to be switched off at the end of the year.

Sept 2010

Town centre WiFi system now owned by RTC. Operation in hands of Ross-on-WiFi. Regular reports provided to RTC.
