9. Parking
To improve the quality of car parks in Ross by ensuring they are pleasant to use (clean, tidy and well managed), clearly signposted and, therefore, accessible and made good use of.
When asked in the questionnaire if there are enough car parks and spaces (within 250m) of the shops in Ross 73% of respondents said YES and 21% thought there should be more.
There is strong evidence from the questionnaire that there is adequate parking provision in Ross. However, the available spaces are poorly signposted and some car parks are perceived to be dowdy and unattractive.

Progress To Date: |
|
| Dec 2011 |
The Town Council has now taken over the car park notice boards in the town from the County Council, which had been badly neglected for years, with no maintenance, graffiti and incomprehensible maps. Watch this space, as improvements are planned ! |
Aug 2011 |
Although three-quarters of the respondents to the questionnaire indicated that there is sufficient parking provision in the form of car parks and on-street parking, it is perceived that the car parks are badly sign posted and are unattractive. Efforts are being made by the Signage Subcommittee to address these views.
However, the Association of Ross Traders (ART) is currently campaigning for the on-street 30 minutes parking allowance in the town centre to be extended to 60 minutes. ART does not consider that 2 hours free parking in (e.g.) Wilton Road, Palace Pound, Cantilupe Road, Gloucester Road (east of The Chase Hotel) and Church Street are adequate for motorists (visitors and residents) who wish to spend longer than 30 minutes in the town centre. |
