Ross on Wye Town Plan Progress Group

17. Upgrade Play Areas and Kickabout Areas

To improve existing play areas and provide more recreational space in Ross-on-Wye.

In looking at the response to question 33 about play areas it is important to note that only 22% of those who answered it were in the 20-40 age group (those most likely to have young children).

17% of respondents were in favour of more play areas and 13% felt that each should have extended facilities to include provision for special needs.

With regard to requests for more "kickabout / recreation areas" 33% agreed they were needed.

Issue

To improve existing play areas and provide more recreational space in Ross-on-Wye.

Action

The Town Council should identify where improved facilities are needed. This could be partly done by looking at the results of the PfR exercises and also by further consultation.

Responsibility

Ross Sports and Leisure Federation (RSLF), the Youth Forum, Ross Town Council (RTC), Herefordshire Council (HC).

Priority

High priority.  Medium term.

 Progress To Date:

Sept 2011

RTC Sub-Committee is exploring the ideas of outdoor table tennis tables and petanque pistes by the Skate Board park. HC has agreed to give up some car parking in order to facilitate this.

Latest thinking is to use land near tennis courts.
