Issue |
To continue to develop Ross-on-Wye as a tourist destination by maximising its potential.
|
Action |
Ross Town Council and other interested groups such as ART and Walkers are Welcome should work with the Tourist Information Centre to pursue policies that encourage visitors to Ross. An initiative to bring more coaches to the town is already underway with representatives from ART and RTC working with the TIC. This links in with better signage in the town. Ross needs to develop an identity that it can promote to potential visitors. A focus group of interested parties should be set up to address this.

Responsibility |
RTC, TIC, Visit Herefordshire (Destination Management Partnership), ART.

Priority |
High priority. On going.

Dec 2011 |
In 2011 Ross Town Council paid for the production of a new leaflet, published by the Association of Ross Traders, to promote the town to visitors. It is currently working with a company to produce a Town Guide, at no cost to it, which will also promote Ross.
A signage working party of the Town Council meets regularly. It is writing a report to be sent to Herefordshire Council on how signage in the town can be improved.
A project to enhance The Blake Memorial Garden in time for the Queen’s forthcoming Diamond Jubilee was begun earlier in 2011. This garden forms one of the gateways to the town and should create a favourable impression to visitors.
A Jubilee Committee has been set up by the Town Council to coordinate events in Ross for the Jubilee Weekend next year which it is anticipated will draw visitors to the town.
Work is being undertaken to investigate the possibility of holding a Festival Seminar in Ross in 2012 for the benefit of local and national groups interested in staging events.
Members of the Town Council continue to work with the Association of Ross Traders to promote Ross as a shopping destination. |
