30. Fly Tipping and Littering
To reduce the amount of fly tipping and littering in Ross-on-Wye and ensure that when it does occur it is promptly dealt with.
The over whelming response (95%) was in favour of fly tipping being dealt with swiftly and deterred. The most popular means of achieving this were to ask Ross Town Council to provide a better clear-up service within the existing Council Tax (33%), request the police to spend more on enforcement (31%), and request Herefordshire Council to spend more on clearing-up (11%). The perception here seems to be that Ross Town Council should have responsibility for fly tipping when it actually falls under Herefordshire Council.

Removing fly tipped rubbish on County Council owned land is the responsibility of Amey, who deal with all highways matters on behalf of the County Council. The County Council’s Community Protection Team will also make investigations and where there is solid evidence, will take offenders to court.
