32. Health Services

To improve health service provision where necessary.

This question covered doctor, dentist, district nurse, health visitor, home help, ambulance, maternity care, chiropody, loan of medical equipment, meals on wheels, counselling, physiotherapy, prescription collection, library and Herefordshire Council at Swan House services.

Analysis of what was a very complicated question indicates that, in the majority of cases, respondents seem happy, or at least not unhappy, with the services covered.

31% expressed dissatisfaction with NHS dentistry provision, and

20% with counselling services.

Ross Community Hospital is widely supported by the local community and The Friends of Ross Community Hospital has a large and active membership.

Issue

To improve health service provision where necessary.

Action

Pass this data to the Area Health Authority and lobby for better dentistry and counselling services.

Responsibility

Ross Town Council to make representations to the Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Herefordshire Council about improvements to NHS dentistry provision.

Priority

High. Medium term.

 Progress To Date:

Dec 2011

Counselling services remain poor with short-term counselling, up to 6-weeks, available from (and paid by) GP practices whilst the county Mental Health Service provides longer-term services to the very mentally ill. A gap still exists where patients who are not ill enough cannot access longer-term counselling until they (presumably) become more ill.

Development of further help has become embroiled in Central Governments plans for NHS commissioning and are seemingly frozen.

Alternative therapies including hypnotherapy, reflexology and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in the private sector are flourishing locally.

May 2011

Recommend strategy to new Town Council.
